Jodhpore Club Indian Cuisine

The Jodhpore Club is located in a cozy little corner of the city between College and Dundas streets, in what used to be a hippie sandal shop. This North Indian restaurant is known for its affordable lunch buffet and its homestyle cooking.
We started with a pleasant, if average, appetizer platter consisting of poppadom, pekoras, and vegetable samosas, accompanied by a fresh Tamarind sauce before moving on to our main course. The butter chicken and lamb vindaloo, served with a side of basmati rice adorned with fresh cumin, was a split sensation; The sauces were fantatsic, however, the meat was of a cheaper cut in the case of the lamb, and the chicken was a little drier than one would have expected.
Along side of these more common Indian dishes, we were delighted with the unique Kabuli-style lamb chops, and the Chicken Jalfrezi. These two dishes were perfectly prepared, and really hit the spot after the previous two disappointments. As a final side we ordered our favourite; mattar paneer. Alas, this final tasting had the paneer tasting more like semi-soggy cardboard, than the tender cheese it should be, and overall left us feeling a little confused.
To conclude, we would have to say that the Jodhpore Club does indeed have some great eats, but it seems to be hit and miss as far as consistency of quality is concerned. However, that being said, the price is right, the location is quaint, and the unique variety of their menu convinces us that we should return and give them another chance to tickle our tummies.
Overall: Unique items, lack of consistency in quality.
